Are Cuban Cigars Still the Best in the World? |

Cuban cigars have long enjoyed the reputation for being the best cigars in the world, but are they really? Discount cigars made from tobacco grown from Cuban seed plants have popped up in other areas of the Caribbean, including Jamaica, Nicaragua, and even Southern Florida. According to the opinions of serious cigar afficionados, these discount cigars taste as good, or nearly as good as the finest Cuban cigars. Personally, I tend to agree with these experts. Cuba has been so cash-strapped since the fall of the Soviet Union that they've really overharvested their tobacco plants, and the soil in the Cuban tobacco plantations is getting thin and lacking in the proper nutrients. So it may be that Cuban cigars are no longer the finest in the world, that cigars grown from Cuban seed plants in better soil now have more of the savor and qualities that made Cuban cigars world famous. My advice is that anyone who loves a good cigar enough to own cigar humidors and other cigar accessories, check out this theory on his own, reading up on the latest Cuban cigars and how they stack up against less expensive discount cigars. |
