How Will the Recent Hurricanes Affect the Price of Cuban Cigars? |

The recent spate of hurricanes featured almost daily in the evening news has ravaged parts of the United States, but these powerful storms also tore through the Caribbean and inflicted considerable damage on parts of the island of Cuba. Normally I wouldn't care a fig about something bad happening to this Communist island nation, unless it affected the price and quality of Cuban cigars. My main concern about these storms is: did they damage Cuban tobacco crops? And if they did, how will this affect the best cigars prices? I have a feeling that while Cuba wasn't hit as hard as it could have been, it may make it hard to find discount cigars with Cuban brands in the next year or two. Of course, if Cuba had been as hard hit as Haiti was, then you could probably forget buying Cuban cigars for years. They'd be either sky-high in price or unobtainable at any price. However, here's hoping that Cuban cigars will continue to be available at decent prices in the next few years, no matter what the weather is like. They may never be available as discount cigars, but as long as they remain affordable, I'm okay with that. |
