Will the Obama Presidency End Restrictions on Importing Cuban Cigars? |

The trade embargo on Cuban goods has put a crimp on Americans' ability to buy Cuban cigars and rum for the last 40 years or so, but isn't it time to end the restrictions on trade with Cuba? Personally, I think so. All of the restrictions on trade and travel with Cuba are holdovers from the Cold War era and by rights should be put to bed. Many people will say that it's wrong to deal with a Communist government, but let's get real. America's biggest trading partner in the world economy is China, one of the biggest, most repressive governments on the planet, and I don't see too many people squawking about trade with China because of their government, unless they're concerned with the fate of Tibet. So, here's hoping that incoming president Obama will see the foolishness of preventing trade with Cuba and realize that it's better to be a trading partner with Cuba and try to influence them toward democracy by encouraging trade in Cuban cigars, rum and other Cuban goods like cigar humidors and cigar accessories, and by letting Americans travel to Cuba and show the Cubans how free people live. Here's hoping, we'll all be able to legally buy Cuban cigars during the Obama Administration. |
