When I think of Cuban cigars, I remember the challenge Michael Moore issued to Unites States 2008 presidential election candidate Fred Thompson last spring. On Moore's official website, he confronts Thompson by accusing him of hypocrisy since he supports the trade embargo while at the same time violating it by smoking Cuban cigars. I'm not politically conservative, but I must confess that Michael Moore irritates me beyond measure. The challenge is full of derisive spiteful remarks that to me seem typical of Moore. Although I wouldn't vote for Thompson, I couldn't help but enjoy his video response to Michael Moore's challenge concerning Cuban cigars. In the video, Thompson parodies masculinity by swiveling pompously on a leather chair with a big fat Cuban cigar in his mouth. He continues to imply Michael Moore could benefit from being institutionalized. While I may not agree with Fred Thompson's politics, I do admire his wry sense of humor. He might be a hypocrite, but so are the majority of politicians. I say we should let the man enjoy Cuban cigars if he wants to. It's not as though he flies a jumbo jet while preaching about the environment.
